The sculpture is inspired by the timeless ancient Greek myth of Icarus. Icarus stands as a symbol of ambition and desire to reach higher beyond one’s limitations, to dare greatly and love fearlessly.
He represents the human desire to pursue dreams and the ambition to explore new possibilities.
The two birds of the composition facing opposite directions, allude to the opposite trajectories of Daedalus compared to his son. They embody the tension between aspiration and limitation; and highlight the importance of balance as we achieve great heights in the pursuit of our ambitions.
The sculpture is positioned in a certain distance from the wall to create a play of depth and perspective, shadows and light. Rejecting everything superfluous in a minimal aesthetic; the line evolves from faces to forms, merging contemporary design with a sense of ancient tradition.
