SOLD I Niké , une femme qui se fabrique sa propre liberté

The protagonist of this narrative scene is the winged female figure to whom the painting owes its tittle. In the Greek mythology, Niké (in greek Νίκη ), personifies the God of Victory. Its armless and headless depiction is inspired by the sculpture of the Victory of Samothrace; a masterpiece of the Hellenistic period, dating around the beginning of the 2nd century AC, and currently conserved in the museum of Louvre.

The second main element in the composition, is the circular form in bas relief alluding to an abstract source of light such as the sun, the moon, or a moment of eclipse. There is a certain tension between the two main elements of the painting, as if they were involved in a dance. Niké emerging from the sea, is represented in her back with her chest slightly turned towards the observer. Her wings are extended, in a lonely moment of complete confidence and catharsis under a bath of sun/moonlight.

A silver thread as a ray of light descending from the source, meets with the seascape and merges in it, reaching through the water the female figure.

An atmospheric piece about sensation, sensuality, and freedom.
